Camping should only be done on fishing trips

Okay so camping, also known as hiding or posting, is this 'really' a tactic? I mean seriously, who camps? I'll tell you who camps, people who are scared of being shot with an airsoft gun...PERIOD!. Now, let me 'clarify' something, if you are pinned down, recently engaged with no place to go or know that there is a sniper around, you are not camping. That is simply holding your ground until you can figure out a exit point. Now, on the flip side of that coin, if you stay there for more than a few minutes... now you are camping and again, what do we call campers?

Camping is probably the worst tactic you could do. The reasons are:
#1. It makes the games SUPER BORING.
#2. Eventually the opposite team is going to figure out where you are and then your just plain screwed.
#3. In most games, there is a time limit.. just image 'both' teams camped, Who wins?
#4. You don't learn anything when you camp.
#5. You let down your teammates when you camp.

Those are the top 4 reasons I can think of off the top of my head, I am sure that there are more but we'll move on. Now, referring to reason #1, when you camp, you have one team or other players that are having fun by clearing corners, trees, bushes, what have you. Then they find you and honestly what goes through their heads are.. "Why the hell am I wasting my time, he's not going to move...", yet they still engage because 'they' want to play and 'they' are not scared of taking a hit. Personally, I have called myself out because I got tired of 'looking' for campers. I went back to the safe zone and teamed up with the others and we all went after the camper. That made the game fun.. 12 vs. 1.. GREAT!!

On to reason #2, when you camp, you are not always 'stealth'. If the team you are playing is staying together, as soon as you take the first shot you're done for. That is unless that team is inexperienced then I guess you will live a little longer. But seriously, you take the shot, you hit one guy and all of a sudden you're not 'camping' anymore. Now, you are trapped because if the team you're playing is smart, they will instantly flank your position or open up on it, either way you are now a target. Not to mention that if they spot you before you spot them, They are going to surround you like you are the only female left in an all male world. Yep, you're gonna get 'FUBAR'.

This brings us to game time, when you play airsoft in general or at an airsoft or paintball field, most likely there is a time limit, it could be 20 minutes, 30 minutes or more. Now if you are camping, you are wasting valuable time to achieve your objective. Whether that be capturing the flag or total elimination. Think of it, the other team spends 1/2 of the time finding out that you have been hiding in the bush the entire time, then the other 1/2 of the time trying to figure out how to kill you or get to the flag. Then the next thing you know, the whistle blows, game is over and only ONE shot was fired.... YOURS. How fun is that? I'll tell you this, if I were playing you in that game, I would never play you again, or if it were 'my' game, I would never invite you again.

Hmmm, camping as an airsoft tactic, it is not a tactic in ANY game. You will never find an serious player 'sitting' around waiting to get shot. Highly doubtful that you will ever find any SWAT team or SEAL team sitting in a bush. So, is camping really a tactic? I say no and I say that because simply, a tactic is something that requires knowledge, ability and quick thinking. So if sitting still and waiting to die is a tactic, I guess we can just stop training our military and police forces anything. When you play airsoft, you learn from your mistakes, if it didn't work this time, you normally talk to yourself on the way back to the safe zone telling yourself that you should have looked here or there. The next time you go out, one of the things you learned was.. 'check that corner, stairs, bush, blah, blah'.. You learned something.

So the last reason on my list is, when you camp, you let your teammates down. Let's take this to a good ole game of ice hockey. The game is getting intense and all of a sudden a fight breaks out (whoa what a surprise?!?). Both benches clear to the center ice, gloves come off, shirts get tucked, sticks go flying and people start dropping. But you decide that you want to stay on the bench (Ie. camp) and wait for someone from the other team to skate by the wall so you can pop them one. But everyone is on the center ice..?!? How are you going to get a shot in if everyone is out there? So, your team gets beat mercilessly and the game ends. Everyone on your team has some type of battle wound from the fight EXCEPT you. Well gee, I guess you were 'lucky' because now you can go home and say, "The team got into a fight with the screaming musclemen and they all got beat down." Well, you better lock your door because most likely, it's not the screaming musclemen that you have to worry about now. Do you really think that now, if you get into an 'altercation' on the ice, your teammates will clear the bench for you? Highly unlikely. Same thing applies with airsoft. if you are the 'last man standing' because you camped, your team isn't looking at you as 'the great white hope'.. they are looking at you like you weren't man (or woman) enough to get beat with the rest of the team.

Camper's motto's..
- "Leave no man behind.. except the wimp that stays behind"
- "Stay put and die quick"
- "I'm not really an air softer, but I 'play' one on TV"
- "I don't want to move because if I do, I'll get shot"
- "Here's $20.00 I'll be in that bush"
- "I've got my fishing pole right here next to my AEG"
- "I'll get the one that actually knows how to play.. Then I'll look like I know what I'm doing"

Anyway, is camping really an airsoft tactic? I don't think so and if you think that it is... BIG 5 sells all the airsoft guns you'll ever need.

ok so by your definition if myself an 3 others have set up an ambush then we are campers? how about if im acting as recon with another guy for my team and we are relaying back intel on the movements of the other team? how about a sniper team in an excellent firing position? or lets go one further. in a capture the flag game those guarding the flag would be camping under your definition. i agree that if someone is just hiding without any real purpose that that is kind of shady but by your definition most tactics used in a woodland or jungle, or non urban area are camping.

You have a Valid point but lets point out when Camping teams camping each other out ...has it gone too far!

Half an hour static games. I have seen my own team sit totally still in the trenches and trails, this is so boring.

Trying to clear out trails is suicidal!... I got TKed by my own team.

Funny seeing my own team follow me as the Expendable guy... I die first!

from my point of view and the fact that these battles are getting so close its worthy of a bang out...the games need a time limit to force players to take mission objectives, patrol areas to win territory and not just sit still and camp.

Camping is a stratagie but I would honestly say you were shooting fish in a bucket... you are cheating yourself, denying any action to the game and the other guy will thus camp.

I get hit and walk as a dead man and see the guys who shot me all aiming down the one trail- there is no way to ever possiblly fight your way into those bunkers... this is why I have to cut down those trails so that it can be possible to take them!... Bush defence is way too thick and far too high, those bunkers are probablly never going to be easy to take!

Therefore why not enforce an honor system- anticamp rule... players in groups are to remind all others to not camp - or use dirty tactics that seem out of place that are only allowed for by sniper units.

I want action games with objectives not boring sloth fests and unorganized Death matches in the hot tropical heat.

Last sunday I actually got so thirsty from trying to find Campers I actually left the game to get a drink... I was later unable to find anyone or my own team.

You can Camp but all I can say is that you are cheating yourself... Hell I might as well camp in my air conditioned car!- Now get out there and clear trails - gain territory- and steal objective items- I will be installing a time limit Mutha Fukas!

The best way to defeat camping is to do what you already are doing. By making tons of ways to get flank and sneak into the lines of the enemy with new trails you can make it foolish to simply camp as eventually the enemy can surround you.

what i usually do is hunt down the guys who have the balls to move, have a fun game and firefight with them and then wait for the campers to get bored.................lmfao ambush point great excuse man, thats still camping, what are you setting up ambush for? theres usually no objective.

unless its attack and defend then i guess camping is good

I camped a few area's in the woods on saturday, but after moving extensively, once i was alone and heard the enemy less than 20ft on the other side of thick brush, i heard 3 of them and was waiting to see if they would move or walk back towards their base, i was clearly outnumbered and no way i was gunna pop into their crosshair's, i technically wouldnt consider it camping, anyone must be dumb to do otherwise, especially knowing when i wouldnt walked into their crosshairs i wouldve been lit up, because i know it was people with no trigger control.

if you know how to play the woods you wouldnt be afraid to take shots....even if youre outnumbered.

There are only things i can compare this situation to. 1. Football. 2. Chess. and 3. Poker.

Example for poker, you can raise if you like, know how to bluff, but when you know that your enemy has you outnumbered, out-handed...yeah, stay quite, hide, and fold your cards. sometimes it is better to take a rest and let the battle go else where. Dont fight wars you know you will loose. That is essentialy what a recon/sniper team does, stay quite and watch.

On the other hand...35 people all camping really DOES suck! As soon as the trails start opening up, please, dont camp. we want this place to be as open as the forest that the poeple in Scottland use to play airsoft.

Sand dragon you are totaly right. It is a waste of time to camp all game just grow a pair and join the fight. If you are outnumbered let them go past then get them from behind dont just lay there and wait till the are totaly gone. I can only speak for myself I came to play if that means I have to go against a whole team I have no problem take as many out as I can before I am taken out you may just get licky at times.

Saturday while playing attack and defend after Sand Dragon getting shot by his own team they just all camped out. Jester myself and one other member that I can not remember his name total went aroung on them taking them out while they camped in the bush until we killed them all. The point of the game was to attack our position not to lay back and camp waiting for us to get tired of waiting and going out to find you.

If you stop camping and engage the enemy you may get shot and out but eif everyone would do this games would go by much faster and then we are able to start a new game faster. It got to the point that we actually stopped a game and restarted a new one still having 1 or 2 campers still out there.

You are there to play not to stay hidding in the bush like little girls scared to get shot sooner or later you will get shot it is just a matter if you want to go out like a camping bit$% or like a man fighting

well, i ended up being on the "attacking" team in the forest every single time, with all the people afraid to get shot with me and sanddragon.


attack and defend is really an unfair situation, one team camps a base while the other attacks....everyone defending picks a good spot and you can watch trails from a mile away, attackers wont see the shots coming....there is no way for the attacking team to win.

till this day i havent been able to talk strategy into side i end up on because it's always with the little kids who obviously dont wanna rush in alone, so people like sanddragon are out first with their necks out.


also, i do agree with Mr. monkey. watch the scottland videos "scotthedoggie" thats the type of organization we need on the teams and of the field. they play with 100+ at a time, and i've never seen a teamkill in their videos.

Camping and hiding is one thing but waiting and checking the coast is clear is another. The idea of the game is to live. What means would you use to stay alive in a real situation? I myslf am more of a stalker and like moving slowly. Why do you think so many died in the battle of Gettysburg?

I personally don't like camping,it's annoying enough to have people do it in COD let alone in airsoft,but if people want to do it i have no problem with it,it's up to the person what tactic they want to use

and we dont do it anymore because we now have automatic weapons vs. their muzzle loaders. a lot more casualties now.

hey we should try Civil ware reEnactments!... ya I know we do not have the weapons but all teams must march, holding there weapons, act out the loading sequence- PRETEND!, fire, call a hit if so, then do it again.

It may sound like a silly senerio but it will be an interesting skirmish with everyone fored to fight in semi auto and pretending they are reloading yet another musket ball.... there is a way to do this actually...remove the mag- clip... and manually place the bb round down the barel...you will need your ramming rod.

Since we are always attacking up front I say we are the EXPENDABLES!

thats how it goes, i rather get taken out mid game, moving, than be the last person alone and hunted.
